Cordillera Huayhuash Bike n' Trek

The trekking region of the Cordillera Huayhuash is getting famous as one of the most beautiful in the world. And it's absolutely true! Most tourists are doing the trek in guided groups, but to do it on your own will be even more fantastic - and as a gringo alone with his donkey you will be the attraction vor everyone. For this off the map you need 10 - 14 days.

Description
0   Junction to Chiquian Main road Huallanca -  Lima, junction to Chiquian. Nice downhill on an new gravel road to Chiquian.
18 3400 Chiquian Big village with hostels and shops. Maybe it's possible to buy supplies for the trekking here, we have done it in Huaraz.
At the gaz station go right for Llamac. Very, very steep and bad downhill to the Rio Ainin (bridge) and then following the river (passing Quisipata) to a crossing.
28   Crossing Llamac - Quero Take the right branch, descent to the river. After 5km you reach a bridge and the road begins to climb.
37   Crossing Llamac - Pacllon Take the left branch, the road becomes better and climbs higher.
45 3300 Llamac  Small village with hostel, small shops. Entrance fee 15 soles pp. Hospedaje Santa Rosa, 7 soles pp, very safe place to deposit your bike during the trek. The owner is very helpful and can organize you a donkey for the trekking, 5 U$ per day (you have to guarant the full prize of a donkey (120 U$) if you lost it... and they will give you the oldest one of the whole Cordillera Huayhuash!)
Trek The main trek is 9 days, we have done it in 8. Every day you have to pay some entrance fee (aprox. 130 soles pp, you need the money in small notes). The guides of the tourist groups will help you if you have some problems with your donkey. A good trekking map (even mit GPS dates) is available in Huaraz (20 U$). The ways are easy to find. The trek starts in Llamac and also ends there.
49   Pocpa Very small village. Entrance fee 5 soles pp. The road to Pocpa is very bad, a lot of pushing necessary. After Pocpa the road continues climbing until it reachs a high plane.
55 3825 Puente Sacog The next 2km are flat. You pass the miners village of Pallca.
58   Puesto de control National park control station, you have to do the registration. The road begins to climb again and becomes worse.
63 4170 Quartelhuain The trekkers camp is on the right side. The road cross the Rio Llamac and climbs up to the real pass. Water is available all the way until the last 3km before the pass.
72 4750 Paso Cuncush Nice downhill, follow always the main road to Huallanca.
100 3450 Huallanca Small town with hostels, restaurants, shops, internet. From here the paved road leads to Lima. If you want to visit the Parque nacional de Huascaran, there is a good opinion to take the gravel road 33km after Huallanca over the Paso te Yanashallash (4700) which leads directly through the southern part of the national park.
